Our Story
Scotties was founded by Lou Scott in 2011, but her passion for coffee started back in New Zealand 10 years prior to that, where she owned a café and coffee roasting business, supplying to supermarkets, cafes and pubs.
After moving back to London, and finding it hard to get a great coffee, she set up her first coffee van outside the BBC in White City. Over the next few years Scotties grew to 4 coffee vans and 2 in-house cafes.
Today, Scotties are supplying their beans to pubs, restaurants, offices and cafes across the south of England.
Coffee sourcing
Every year you’ll find Lou on a motorbike somewhere in the world, hanging around coffee plantations, learning something new about the processing and meeting the growers.
These trips are not only important for educational reasons, but one of the best things that comes from these trips is passing on her passion and energy to her staff and clients, telling them the stories of where the beans have come from, showing them pictures of Lou standing on a plantation, bean in hand.
Fast forward to being back in London supplying and making a coffee from that exact coffee plantation.
Central and South America have always been her favourite, with Brazil, Colombia and Mexico being outstanding in flavour.
The plantations are so different from one region to another, from country to country.
In Asia, around Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam she loves visiting the small holds and community based, cooperative plantations. Families are seen picking beans with children, before the bus picks them up to go to school .
In our view, buying from these types of estates has always been Scotties ethos and should, in our view, be the future for all coffee supply. We only ever buy beans that are ethically sourced, where we know that the workers are being looked after”. Truly bean to cup!
